What is your mission?

This position consists of work of an accounting and administrative nature. An incumbent in this position is primarily responsible for performing functions pertinent to the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, ensuring accuracy of general ledger, ensuring all sub-ledger accounts are in balance, trouble-shooting and miscellaneous accounting assignments. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: expenditure and revenue analysis; incremental cost-benefit analysis; vendor analysis; Net Present Value analysis; month-end reviews of portfolios; assist in the preparation of the year-end files; and various reporting requirements as needed by ownership. This position reports directly to the Divisional Controller.

You will help us deliver excellent service to our partner brands by performing these tasks:

  • Performs accounting functions pertinent to the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting including high-level adjusting journal entries, reconciliation of all sub-ledger accounts and assisting with any required reporting needs of ownership
  • Perform monthly Tenant EFTs, working with Property Managers to trouble shoot any irregularities
  • Perform month-end variance analysis for all portfolios and work directly with Property Managers for discussion on variances
  • Review Property reports and Operating Statements for all portfolios
  • Assist in the training of site and office staff in accounting procedures and property management application; trouble-shoots in problem areas
  • Assists in the preparation of the year-end file and the Trust file for submission to the Auditors and Real Estate Council of Alberta, including working papers and analysis
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner
  • Assist in the detailed review of weekly cheque runs
  • Provide oversight and assistance, where necessary, over the bank reconciliation function
  • Assists in special assignments as requested by Divisional Controller
  • Other projects and activities as required

Who are we looking for?

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures, practices, and methods
  • Advanced computer skills (especially in excel and spreadsheet applications) and business software
  • Ability to quickly grasp the customized property management system being used (MRI Version X and Spreadsheet Server)
  • Strong analytical and technical accounting skills
  • High-level of attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
  • Ability to provide and express information in a clear, concise manner, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, trades, and members of the general public
  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a post-secondary degree in Accounting
  • Working towards or currently possess Chartered Professional Accountant designation
  • 2-3 years relevant experience in the Accounting industry or Property Management industry
