"The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) is the sole government agency that provides insurance protection to agricultural producers, specially the subsistence farmers and fisherfolk.It is a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) that protects investments on crop and other agriculture and fishing assets against losses due to natural calamities, such as typhoons, floods, droughts, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, plant pests and diseases, and other perils.
PCIC’s main insurance businesses are rice insurance, corn insurance,high-value crop insurance,livestock insurance,fisheries insurance,non-crop agricultural asset insurance and credit and life-term insurance.
PCIC operates nationwide. It has a central office in Quezon City and 13 regional offices (ROs).To broaden reach of the agency’s service, the regional offices have established PCIC extension offices (PEOs) and service desks.The former has the same capacities as the ROs while the latter provides information services only.
As of end 2019,the PCIC has provided insurance cover to over 3,00,00 farmers and fisherfolk.
PCIC is an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture. It was established in 1981 based on Presidential Decree 1467 (June 11, 1978).This was later on amended by Republic Act 8175 (December 29, 1995) to enable the company to respond better to the changing needs ofits clients.
